Top 5 Inbound Marketing Books Every Marketer Should Read

By Annie Crossland - July 21, 2015

In the corner of my lounge sits a beautifully restored, dark wooden bookshelf. It's one of my favourite pieces and not for its own craftsmanship, but rather that it's home to some of my most prized possessions.

I've had a love affair with books for as long as I can remember. And not just the fiction variety, either. When I frequently travelled for business (a good few years ago), the act of time-wasting in airport bookshops inevitably led to another 2 or 3 business books finding their permanent home on my bookshelf, with each airport visit.

Things have changed a bit since then. On a personal front, I no longer travel for business. And more generally, we've aggressively transitioned to a digital age, where many, if not most, of our interactions take place via a screen of sorts. Thanks to the likes of Amazon and Kindle this extends to reading books.

There's something about the feel of the crisp paper as you page through the inked words that can't be emulated by the digital versions.

Inbound marketing is inescapable in today’s digital journey and so is the abundance of digital resources available to you at the touch of the ‘Google search’ button. However, if you are ‘old school’ like me, there is nothing better than the crisp smell and feel of a good book. And if paper has a place in your hybrid future, what better way to ‘switch off’ and boost your inbound marketing skills, by reading inspiring books from leading inbound marketers.

Want to become a better writer? There’s a book for that. Looking to convert more visitors into customers? We’ve got you covered!

Everybody Writes: Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiculously Good Content - Ann Hadley

Ann Hadley’s philosophy is simple. If you have a website, actively use social media platforms or rely on words to carry marketing messages, then you are in marketing. Sure, that sounds simple enough, but the reality is we compete in a world of killer headlines, Twitter feeds, responsive design and #hashtags. And if you are unable to communicate well or neglect to tell a good story, then you might be failing miserably at keeping and retaining the attention of your audience through online communications efforts.

Everybody Writes, offers expert guidance and insights into the process of content creation, production and publishing. Your take-home from this book would be to tap into the content writing best practices and to apply them generously to your website, landing pages, email campaigns and social media messages. Remember the goal is always to attract, convert, close and delight your prospects through their entire buyer’s journey.

Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers into Friends and Friends into Customers - Seth Godin

Today’s consumers are bombarded with marketing messages spurred on by traditional marketing methods, which are simply outdated and disruptive!

By reaching out to only those individuals who have expressed interest in your product or solution, empowers you to develop long-term relationships with your prospects, improves visibility of your brand and greatly increases the chances of making a sale.

Applying the principles of permission marketing, can amplify your communication campaigns or at the very least, help you formulate and launch ever campaign with greater insight and success.
